We woke up Tuesday morning and realized we hadn't seen everything we wanted to see when we were on the road to Hana. And this was going to be our last full day. So we decided to have a mapped out plan that would let us travel the road quicker this time, while seeing the sites we had missed!
This is a picture of our gas stop from the day before.
Notice gas in Maui is $4.87 a gallon! We have never put that much money into one fill up, but it was worth it! And we were going to have to do it again today since we were traveling around Maui once more!
Our first stop was this small area of beautiful Rainbow Eucalyptus tress.
We couldn't believe we had missed them before. They were right off the highway.
Close up.
Isn't the color amazing?
They are great climbing trees too!
The next place we wanted to visit was a bamboo forest.
Where we parked, we saw a man with his birds who would, for $20!, take your picture with his birds sitting on your shoulders. We decided to snap a quick photo but spend our $20 elsewhere!
The trail that supposedly took us to a bamboo forest.
We didn't see any great bamboo, but we saw some really cool lava tunnels.
We drove all the way around east Maui on the Hana Hwy until we reached the Seven Sacred Pools again. Several people we had come into contact with said that the 4 hour trail there was amazing. We didn't have time to do it the first time there, so this time we hiked it!
Pipiwai Trail:
Beautiful views along the way.
The coolest banyan tree we have ever seen!
The roots grew straight up from the ground (aerial roots) and connected with the tree somehow.
an interesting part of the trail...
another pretty view
Into a really GREAT bamboo forest!
We walked along this pathway and the bamboo was thick on both sides.
Looking straight up :)
Justin thought he could take us through the thick of it all, off the main path.....it didn't work out so well.
Who knew bamboo grew so close together that you couldn't even walk through it!?
another pretty area
Almost there and 2 hours in...
And at the end of the trail, a 400 ft waterfall!
(Waimoku Falls)
Back at the Seven Pools, we realized that today you could swim in them!
(the water was FREEZING)
We waded through some of the shallow areas to watch these guys jumping off into the deep water.
Justin got the nerve up to do it himself!
Here is a video of Justin jumping:
So much fun! So that's all we missed on the Hana Hwy, but we still have half a day left!
sorry but unable to see the video. Dad P
